What is the halter style?

The term "halter" comes from the German word for "holder", as in Büstenhalter, which literally means "busts-holder" and is equivalent to "brassiere". - Wikipedia entry on "Halterneck"

Halter or halter tops is short for halterneck, a very feminine sleeveless and mostly backless style of clothing (usually referring to blouses or dresses) that essentially joins the garment together through a single strap looping around the neck. Usually the strings are open to be tied at the back, making tops like these very flexible to suit various body types.

Halter tops and halter-cut dresses vary in their length, body fit, and neckline: Some have plunging necklines, while others cover up the bust nicely; some are loose at the abdomen, while others barely make it to the navel; some are midrib, others down to the hip. What gives the halter style of clothing its trademark is the exposure of the shoulders, the arms, and the back -- the usually overlooked but incredibly sexy areas of a woman's body.

There are also swimwear in the halter style, offering the same flexibility for either a daring reveal, or a modest cover-up of bust or tummy, whichever suits you better!
